INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Remove factory installed muffler. Retain ALL hardware, gaskets, and heat shield/deflector.

Step 2: Hand-fit deflector to the mounting surface of your Steadfast muffler. The presence of the deflector AND gasket is imperative for clearance on some models (specifically 562) as the transfer port cover bosses may interfere with fit/spacing. (Fig. 1-2)

Step 3: Place mounting bolts through muffler and stack your deflector and gaskets in place on the protruding studs. The order in which you place the deflector and gasket is not critical but we do suggest that the gasket be between the muffler and deflector.

Step 4: Loosely start all fasteners to position the muffler on the saw case halves and cylinder BEFORE tightening. Please note the spacers provided are to be placed on the mounting flange and NOT between the muffler and cases. (Fig. 3)

Step 5: Using the factory torque specification or good judgment, tighten all mounting hardware.

Step 6: Use the factory starting procedure and field tuning steps for your saw model.

SPARK ARRESTOR SCREEN REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Remove old screen and screw
Take out the existing spark arrestor screen and its screw. Make sure no pieces remain so the new screen sits flush and even between the muffler and outlet base.

Step 2: Trim new screen as needed
Using your best judgment, carefully cut the sides of the new screen so it fits snugly between the muffler and outlet base. The goal is a just-barely fit — no gaps, but it should slide in without excessive force.

Step 3: Check alignment
Look through the outlet to ensure there are no gaps around the edges. Make sure the hole on the screen lines up with the screw hole on the outlet base.

Step 4: Secure the screen
Replace the screw and tighten accordingly. The screw should be secure but not over-tightened.

Tips:

  • Always ensure the screen sits flush with no gaps for safety and proper spark suppression.

  • If needed, trim a little at a time — you can always remove more, but you can’t add back material.
